Meet our Newest Members

We are delighted to introduce you to some of our newest members of the Network so that you can get to know who your fellow members are and the businesses they are in.

Joanne Wayte

Impact Executive Solutions

How and why did you get started in this business?
After gaining a Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resources and Industrial Relations, I worked in industry for a number of years in management roles in both HR and OHS before joining a major national recruitment company.  Working for this organisation, I learned a great deal about recruitment techniques which ensured the selection of staff who not only had the technical capability for positions but also had the culture and ethic to align with the company environment.

However, I knew I could improve on those techniques and that it was time to take responsibility for myself and put my concepts and systems into practice.

In 2004 I set up my own company to do just that – focusing on my areas of expertise – HR and OHS, recruitment and consulting.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of it?
Being in charge of my own destiny – being able to implement those things I feel passionate about. I now have the ability to modify processes to react to changes in the market. We are incredibly market sensitive while holding firm to our basic principles of serving our clients. Fundamentally, we derive great satisfaction from exceeding the expectations of all those we deal with.

What has been your biggest challenge?
I have always had difficulty in trying to manage my time in terms of finding the right work - life balance. With my extensive networking activities, there is no clear division between work and life. Having said that - I enjoy both to the full!!

What has been your greatest success?
At Impact Executive Solutions, most of our business comes from existing clients and referrals from those clients. Networking is our best marketing tool and we work hard in that area. I became Chairperson for the Bankstown and Liverpool Safety Group six years ago and have led that organisation to now be the premier Safety Forum in NSW with over 300 subscribing members.

Last year I was instrumental in forming a new group called Human Resource Management at Work and it has already grown to over 150 members.

The purpose of both these specialist groups is to further OHS and HR awareness within business, both through specialist guest speakers at the monthly meetings and through a unique electronic communication network that allows businesses to ask questions of each other and share information on related issues.

We are also proud that Impact Executive Solutions has achieved preferential status for recruitment assignments within HR and OHS disciplines for a number of large, national, high profile market leaders.

What goals have you set for the next 12 months?
Goal setting has always been important for me – both personal and business goals. By the end of this year we will have set up a new administration support function for the business – relieving me of much work and allowing me to focus on client relationships and recruitment staff training.

We will continue to expand both our consultant staff base for consulting and contract work as well as our recruitment staff numbers, but we will – at this time – maintain our focus in our areas of HR and OHS specialisation.

How does your membership of WWN assist you in your working life?
My philosophy is to continue to build my business through personal referrals and networking rather than more traditional marketing methods. As with many things, the output is proportionate to the input – so active involvement is essential.

Barbara Simon

 Back Care Solutions

How and why did you get started in this role?
When I came to Australia from Germany in 2000 I realised that I had to start completely new in my area of expertise as no one had ever heard of Dorn Spinal Therapy. So I decided to start my own business, working out of a clinic room I had rented and in 2004 started working from my own clinic at home and running training workshops in Dorn Spinal Therapy to give more practitioners the opportunity to work more successfully with their clients presenting back problems.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of it?
I can mostly work the hours I want to and that gives me the flexibility I need as a mum, a wife and a person who needs freedom to do what she has to do.

What has been your biggest challenge?
Still is - getting enough interest in the trainings to make it a reliable source of good income.

What has been your greatest success?
Starting the business and make it what it is today.

What goals have you set for the next 12 months?
To improve my marketing in order to grow the business and hand over to trainers that then can do what I have been doing so far but still earning money out of it. Starting a new business around jewellery.

How does your membership of WWN assist you in your working life?
