Jilli Wilson

How and why did you get started in this role?
A dream to own and operate our own businsss location/salon after servicing clientele from a home base service situation. Once on the path of investigation and sourcing a location, the fruition of the idea had us canyoning speedily to the outcome before we could ascertain the reality was already upon us.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of it?
Having our clientele see the outcome, comment on how well the finished salon and decor is pleasing and inviting to the eye, thus drawing new curious clientele to venture in and enjoy our services.

What has been your biggest challenge?
Having enough time to fit into a day, the amount of background work a business requires that is necessary: ie book keeping, marketing, brainstorming, stock control etc.

What has been your greatest success?
Our launch, as we have only been openend for a month and having all our wonderfu clients attend and comment on a 'job well done' and knowing that they will now travel to us and enjoy a full salon service.

What goals have you set for the next 12 months?
Expand the salon's hairdressing and therapy into an ongoing and brighter success, marketing campaigns and renting space for professionals in our field.

How does your membership of WWN assist you in your working life?
Through networking, available resources to enhance our business structure and meeting like minded women to help in our future success.

How and why did you get started in this role?
Why was easier than How...

  - Life balance and returning to Sydney after 10 years in Melbourne
  - 25 years of working 70-100 hr weeks, often consulting at weekends
  - Enjoyment of mentoring middle management in my corporate life and,
  - A recognition that consulting to the SME sector and Business Owners specifically, would bring a richness of stimulation to my life
How.....I completed a distance learning course for experienced business executives who wished to work as consultants and completed the accreditation with a residential business school in London (AlnstlB).

What is the most enjoyable aspect of it?
An opportunity to give back and especially to those starting out or wanting to take another leap.

What has been your biggest challenge?
Making the decision to leave a full-time executive management role was hard, but like many others before me, I reached a point where I knew it was the right time, even though it took quite a few months to implement the succession plan, sell up and relocate.

What has been your greatest success?
Helping my very first client in their business and now, multiplied with each new client.

What goals have you set for the next 12 months?
My goal is to be happy in life. I do however have a number of consultancy objectives that underpin my business goals.

  • To assist clients in achieving and exceeding their business goals
  • To assist in business planning and organisational structuring
  • To provide support and commentary on decision making processes
  • To help the Business Owner make money and save money

How does your membership of WWN assist you in your working life?
It will keep me in contact with Business Owners who see the benefit of networking and hopefully mentoring. For me, it provides a forum in a happy environment where I may continue to learn from others.
