Selena Simpson, NSW Business Consultant, 3 Mobile

How and why did you get started in this role?
I have been involved in the Sales Industry since 21.  I enjoy the challenges and excitement, which this role demands on a regular basis.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of it?
Assisting Small Businesses realise a new way of business communication at the best possible price, meeting new people and  the perks that come with a Sales Role!

What has been your biggest challenge?
Making sure I am networking and meeting the right people, which can then assist me in achieving my goals.  Learning to better me, by surrounding myself with positive like minded people.

What has been your greatest success?
Through Job satisfaction, comes financial reward and Incentive Achievement.

What goals have you set for the next 12 months?
To be in the right financial position to buy my first home, and hopefully to sprinkle a little bit of overseas travel into the mix.

How does your membership of WWN assist you in your working life?
Soon to find out.... And am looking forward to it - I'm a new member.

Sonja Walker, Director, Clever Kids Education Centre

How and why did you get started in this role?
I started Clever Kids because my personal experience as a parent and a professional has taught me that children fare best when they are offered caring, genuine support where the faces are always the same, the environment is kid -friendly and where they feel valued, known and understood.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of it?
By far the most wonderful moments have been seeing the change in children's self esteem. Their happiness when they master something new, their excitement when they earn praise from their teachers, the improvements reported at school and their progress from being uncertain kids to confident learners is just great.

What has been your biggest challenge?
Making the change from experienced teacher to initially inexperienced businesswoman! I admit to being a bit of an administrative disaster - accounting? filing? A neat desk? No way! There doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything done. The first 18 months have been hard time wise, meaning what is left is for my son and husband, leaving little for me...but that is every mum, isn't it?

What has been your greatest success?

Our greatest achievement is the development of our excellent reputation - in just 18 months we have established ourselves as a business based on integrity, professionalism and knowledge. We enjoy excellent relationships with other children's service professionals, like Queenscliff Child and Family services and Mona Vale Hospital. We have a great ‘Word of Mouth' reputation and a high retention rate. We were recently short-listed as one of the 5 state finalists in the 2008 Small Business Champion Awards in the category of best Educational Service in NSW and the ACT

What goals have you set for the next 12 months?
We plan to continue our growth in the next 12 months and hope to build our service so that is catering for an extra 50% on our current capacity. We will be consolidating new brands and working to develop strategic alliances with other business in our target market. We will also develop a range of quality new children's programs. We are working hard on our school holiday services and enhancing our children's health services with the possible addition of new health service practitioners.
We will continue to develop publishing opportunities...and I am told that I will soon be mastering the art of ‘blogging'!!

How will your membership of WWN assist you in your working life?
WWN events give me the chance to meet other businesswomen, on whose experience I can draw and from whom I learn. The speakers always inspire me and provide me with timely reminders and great strategies. However, I have to say that the best thing that has happened to me since joining the Working Women's Network is meeting Angela Raspass, who has become my marketing guru!
